What happened
The Union Environment Minister visited the Commission for Air Quality Management's newly developed 'PAVAN-I3C' Integrated Command and Control Centre in New Delhi to review real-time air pollution mitigation operations across Delhi-NCR. The platform integrates over 30 data streams for data-driven compliance and inter-agency coordination.
Why it matters for UPSC
This initiative illustrates governance mechanisms for managing transboundary environmental issues and urban air pollution, directly relevant to UPSC General Studies Paper III (Conservation, Environmental Pollution and Degradation).
Key objectives
- Integrated more than 30 APIs and data streams from over 111 CAAQMS, 2,300 industries, and 3,200 construction sites in Delhi-NCR.
- Operates on the 'Detect, Analyse, Act' principle to enable alert-based compliance management and cross-border enforcement.
- Announced the halting of construction and demolition activities across the NCR region from 5th to 20th November to control pollution.
